The back of the box details the cards advantages - DirectCU II, 0dB fan stop technology, Super Alloy Power hardware and GPU Tweak software.

Opening up and the card is wrapped in its anti-static bag, and packed in deep foam for safety.

     Performance, totally silent operation and energy efficiency in a compact package, is now available in an ASUS Strix R9 285 gaming graphics card.  At its core is AMD's newest and most power-efficient GPU yet - the 28nm Tonga Pro, which has been optimized and re-engineered and deliver more performance at lesser wattage over its predecessor, the Tahiti Pro.  It has XDMA CrossFire technology so an external connector is no longer needed in order to push enough FPS to get the best out of Eyefinity or an Ultra HD 4K display.  TrueAudio DSP allows you to take load off the CPU, and leave audio processing tasks to the DSPs instead to enhance manageability and performance.

     The ASUS Strix R9 285 has 1792 stream processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, 2GB of ultra-fast GDDR5 video memory running across a 256-bit interface at 1375MHz (5.5GHz effective), and the core clock has been factory-overclocked to 954MHz.  Video outputs are abundant with a DVI-I, a DVI-D, an HDMI, and a DisplayPort.  The dimensions of the card are 10.6 X 5.5 X 1.6 inches (27 X 14 X 4.1 cm) and two 6-pin connectors are required to power it.

     And as you would expect, this card is jam packed with exclusive ASUS technologies to further improve the overall quality, performance, and experience.  When you pick out a quality dedicated sound card, or home theater amplifier you are concerned with the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), so why should it be any different with a video card if it certainly produces undesired noise (especially noticeable in quiet conditions)?  Now you can enjoy a Blu-ray movie or do some light gaming with absolutely no background noise from the video card, thanks to 0dB fan technology.  When it is time for some hardcore gaming, the fans will automatically detect when to kick in, while still being 30% cooler and three times quieter than reference cards!

The stock OC of 1,030MHz is deliberately quite conservative to better fit the cooling capacity of a wider range of water cooling setups, but the 3x 8-pin power connectors, ROG's beefed up Super Alloy VRMs and fully custom PCB provide ample overhead for overclocking with GPU Tweak, once you know everything is good to go!

The GTX 900 series is based on the new, power efficient 'Maxwell' core that first launched with the GTX 750 Ti. The GTX 980 and GTX 970, however, use the bigger GM204 GPU, with 2048 and 1664 cores respectively.

ASUS has launched Strix GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards, bringing the benefits of a DirectCU II cooler with fatter, 10mm heatpipes, fan shut-off at low temps (0dB fan tech) and the usual DIGI+ VRM and Super Alloy Power upgrades inside.
