Strix GTX 980Ti

[gallery include="42467,42468" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

Strix GTX 980 Ti had a makeover, and it sure looks menacing.   This time round, there are 2816 CUDA cores with 6GB DDR5 RAM, on top of that (literally) is the new DirectCU III cooling system including super-fat 10mm heatpipes, and not two but three fans!  The fans are of a new patented blade design to increase pressure, but when not needed there is still the 0dB feature for silent operation.

GPU Tweak also had a makeover, now GPU Tweak II has a brand new intuitive UI,  Game Booster to free up system resources with a single click to maximize your framerate and benchmark scores.  Plus you get a 1 year FREE XSplit Premium License worth US$99!

EK, BitsPower and Thermaltake have made water-cooling blocks especially for this stupendous card.

[gallery include="42455,42456" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The brushed-metal backplate remains but a new addition is the GPU Fortifier, there is a fair amount of pressure around the GPU since hefty heatpipes are secured firmly onto it, the Fortifier will keep the PCB from bending.

Strix GTX 980 Ti is made using a new manufacturing process called Auto-Extreme Technology, the entire process is completely automated for extreme consistency and reliability.  All sharp ends of pins are now removed to make the PCB completely smooth.

[gallery include="42449,42450,42452,42454" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

Strix RAID DLX

Why get a discrete sound card nowadays?  For starters, how about industry-leading 124dB SNR (signal to noise ratio) 7.1 surround sound?  192kHz/24Bit quality perhaps? Intergrated headphone amp, onboard op-amp and RAID mode are also included to sweeten the deal.

[gallery include="42439,42440,42441,42442" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

Strix RAID PRO

Both RAID DLX and PRO come with the Audio Station, allowing you to select the output, have quick-access to volume control, and provides RAID mode so you can adjust the sound exactly to your liking, and get an edge when gaming.

ASUS Strix GTX 980 Ti

ASUS announces the release of the Strix 980 Ti, it's a model that incorporates the next generation DirectCU III technology which features 220% larger cooling surface area for better heat dissipation and runs 30% cooler when compared to reference. This card is powered by a Maxwell GM200 GPU (same as Titan X), has 2816 CUDA cores and comes factory-overclocked with the GPU base clock up to 1216MHz (up from 1000MHz), the GPU boost clock up to 1317MHz in OC mode (up from 1075MHz), and the 6GB of GDDR5 memory operating at 7200MHz (effective) on the 384bit memory bus (256bit on the GTX 980).

ASUS Strix GTX 980 Ti

If silence is something of importance to you then you'll find the Strix GTX 980 Ti to be even more intriguing than it already is.  First to incorporate DirectCU III, Strix GTX 980 Ti ups the ante now with three uniquely designed fans, and features Wing-blade 0dB Fan Technology exclusive to ASUS. The new and improved technology helps increase air pressure on the fans by 105%, ensuring that hot air is quickly and effectively moved through the fins of the heat sink. Since the card is so effectively cooled, the fans on the card will not spin up unless the card reaches 65°C or higher, allowing for absolute 0dB silence when it's below that.

ASUS video cards are manufactured through our industry-first 100% automated production process or what is better known as ASUS Auto-Extreme technology. The technology allows ASUS video cards to be flux-free to prevent any possibility of failure due to oxidation and also features the use of Super Alloy II components, offering the most reliable and highest quality video cards in the industry. For over 20 years ASUS has been at the forefront of researching and developing new technologies for video cards, you can read more about the history and milestone achievements on our 20th Anniversary website

Strix GTX 980 Ti

Hot from the stove, we present you with the Strix GTX 980 Ti! Measuring 305 mm long, 152.2 mm in height, and 39.8 mm wide, the Strix GTX 980 Ti is a true champ that packs a heck of a punch! For those of you who haven't had the chance to check out this card in person at a local store or seen it at our booth during Computex 2015, this unboxing article will get you as close as feeling like it's in your hands.

[gallery size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2" ids="43125,43138"]

When you pull the card out of the box, you'll find yourself wanting to feel out the surface of the card and run your fingers along the cool and smooth looking heat pipes. The shroud is made up of three colors: black, silver, and metallic-red, both the silver and red have a very smooth metal-like feel to it, while the black has a rugged texture. Overall whether you're sporting a dark or light color themed build, it doesn't matter, the all new redesigned Strix GTX 980 Ti will look great in almost any build.

[gallery size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2" ids="43128,43133"]

Inside the box you'll find the installation DVD with the GPU Tweak II software and drivers, a 2 x 6-pin to 8-pin power adapter, Strix product catalog, user's manual, and a super hip Strix sticker you can slap on your case.

[gallery include="43126,43135" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The card comes factory overclocked with a base clock of 1216MHz (up from 1000MHz), GPU boost clock up to 1317MHz (up from 1075MHz), and 6GB of GDDR5 memory (4GB on GTX 980) clocked up to an effective memory clock of 7200MHz (up from 7000MHz) running on the 384-bit memory bus (256-bit on GTX 980). Just to give you a good idea how the performance stacks up against the reference version, the card was benched in Witcher 3 and got a 24% boost in FPS (frames-per-second) compared with the reference version, now that's screaming fast!

The GPU on the card is a modified GM200 A1 chip (the same silicon used to power the Titan X) based on the Maxwell architecture, it comes packed with 2816 CUDA cores (2048 on the GTX 980), 176 texture mapping units (128 on the GTX 980), 96 render output units (64 on the GTX 980), and 8 billion transistors. Since the GTX 980 Ti has such similar specifications to the Titan X, it actually has the same TDP (Thermal Design Power) as the Titan X which is 250 Watts, this is remarkable efficiency when you factor in the performance.

[gallery include="43131,43127" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

On the card you'll find all the latest connections required to get your setup up and running whether single or multi-display, those include: one Dual-Link DVI, one HDMI 2.0, and three DisplayPort 1.2, so in total you can configure up to four monitors to run at the same time (three in 4K).

Strix-GTX-980-Ti-connections

On the top right edge of the card you'll find two 8-pin power connectors with LEDs indicating if cables are connected properly.  A red glowing Strix logo with pulsating effects definitely adds style points to your build!

Strix-GTX-980-Ti-PCI-E-connectors

The all-new DirectCU III technology and Triple Wing-Blade 0dB Fan design sets the card apart from others, allowing the card to run 30% cooler and three times more silent than the reference model.  The three uniquely designed high air pressure (5% increase in air pressure) fans are so quiet even when in full throttle, and when you're using the card for light gaming or normal computer tasks you won't hear them at all, as the fans automatically shut off unless the card reaches 65°C or higher. What makes DirectCU III technology so efficient is the design of the heat sink; five large heat-pipes make direct contact with the GPU to help transfer a high volume of heat away from the GPU, two of which are super-fat at 10mm thick and one transfers heat all the way to the farthest end to disperse heat evenly for ultimate efficiency. The cooling surface area of the entire heat sink is 220% larger than the reference card heat sink, which enables superb passive cooling capabilities for less power draw and quieter gaming.

.

[gallery size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2" ids="43127,43131,43130,43129"]

ASUS Auto-Extreme technology is an exclusive automated production process only found on ASUS video cards, Strix GTX 980 Ti puts the technology on full display!  No longer will you worry about accidentally hurting your hands from sharp edges on the video card, as you will no longer find any sharp solder joints on the PCB of any ASUS video cards, all you'll find is a surface of sweet, sweet smoothness.  All ASUS video cards are now flux-free, meaning that you'll never have to worry about oxidation issues, dust build up, or solder points degrading over time. The Strix GTX 980 Ti also features a superior 12+2-phase power design compared to the 8+2 phase power design found on the reference version.  If you think that's all the new tech you're going to get, think again; New Super Alloy Power II components are utilized especially for the AUTO-EXTREME technology process which enhance power efficiency, reduces power loss, lowers temperatures of components, decreases electrical buzzing under load, and improves overclocking capability.  These components are now cooled by the DirectCU III heatsink as opposed to a separate smaller heatsink, making the package simplified and cooled by fans!

Strix-GTX-980-Ti-super-alloy-II

Strix GTX 980 Ti comes fortified with a high-quality aluminum backplate which prevents the card from warping due to accidental physical force while also helping to dissipate heat.  A new fortifier dedicated to the GPU is now used since there is much pressure on it (so heat transfers as efficient as possible), everything about this card screams quality.

[gallery include="43136,43137" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The GPU Tweak II software is new and redesigned, the new intuitive user interface allows for easier overclocking for first-time overclockers but also retains the same advanced settings for experienced overclockers. Another awesome perk that comes bundled with GPU Tweak II is a 1 year license for XSplit Gamecaster ($99 USD value), allowing gamers to easily stream or record gameplay through a convenient in-game overlay.

ASUS Announces Strix R9 Fury

STRIX R9 Fury

The new Strix R9 Fury graphics card with a new Fiji GPU reinforced using a new GPU fortifier, new High Bandwidth Memory technology, new Super Alloy Power II components built using the new ASUS AUTO-EXTREME technology process, cooled by the new DirectCU III air-cooler incorporating the new triple patented Wing-Blade 0dB fan design, is packaged with all-new Strix colors and styling, and features a new pulsating Strix logo.  That's a lot of new stuff!   What else is new?  Oh, and there is the new GPU Tweak II software with a new user interface.

STRIX R9 Fury

Built on AMD's GCN 1.2 (Graphics Core Next) architecture, the new Fiji series of GPUs based on a 28nm fabrication node have 3,584 shader processors, 224 texture units, 64 ROPs and the core clock factory-overclocked to run at up to 1000MHz (1020MHz in OC mode).  Instead of using GDDR video memory, R9 Fury is the first to use 4GB of on-chip HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) operating at 500MHz on a whopping 4,096-bit memory bus.   Having the HBM graphics memory so close to the GPU, the shorter bus means lower latency and improved efficiency.    The power efficiency of this card has been dramatically improved since the previous generations.  All this is fed by ASUS exclusive DIGI+ VRM with a 12-phase power design, and to ensure reliability, quality, quiet operation and overclocking fun Super Alloy Power II components are featured.  The manufacturing process has taken a quantum leap with 100% automated ASUS AUTO-EXTREME technology, it's environmentally-friendly and you get consistently better-quality products, plus the sharp pins on the back of the PCB are gone!  That's a difference you can immediately see and feel.

The new Direct CU III air-cooler features triple patented Wing-Blade fans for increased air pressure for 30% cooler performance while being up to three times quieter.  0dB technology is back so that you can do casual gaming or work with silent operation from the Strix R9 Fury.

Also featured is GPU-Tweak II which now has a new gamer-friendly interface, and of course seasoned overclockers still have access to advanced controls.  An exciting new feature is the Gaming Booster feature, with one click you can maximize you gaming frame rates and benchmark scores by freeing up all available resources possible.  The 1-year Free XSplit Premium License worth US$99 is still available.

2_MG_9515

Strix R9 390X is the successor to the 290X.  This supercharged card is packing more power at the same time more efficiency, and comes with a generous 8GB of GDDR5 memory for the people who crave high-quality textures on their glorious high-resolution displays.   If you're looking for extreme performance at the great price, this can hang with the big boys and give them a run for their money.  People talk about bang for your buck, it would be apt to say in this case (or whatever case you may have) BOOM for your buck.

1_MG_9479

Inside the boxes you’ll find the installation DVD, a 2 x 6-pin to 8-pin power adapter, a setup guide, a Strix sticker to add to your collection, and of course the STRIX R9 390X video card.

2_MG_9515

At the core, the Strix R9 390X is powered by a 28nm Grenada GPU based on the GCN 1.1 architecture.  Core GPU specs include 2,816 stream processors, 176 texture units and 64 ROPs.  Out of the box, the core clock speed has been factory-overclocked to 1070MHz, and with a click of the button in the bundled GPU Tweak II software; OC mode makes the card reach 1090MHz with ease.   Featuring more memory (8GB of GDDR5) operating at 6GHz (effective) running on the huge 512-bit memory bus, and high memory bandwidth (384GBps), it's built to pushing high-quality textures onto high-resolution displays.  To play its strength, having a couple in CrossFire would be amazing.  As a single card, Strix R9 390X is already 10% faster than a reference R9 290X, and 5.5% faster than a reference R9 380X.

The GPU and memory are powered by DIGI+ VRM with an 8-phase power delivery design  incorporates new aerospace-grade Super Alloy Power II components.  The use of these premium components including MOSFETs, capacitors and chokes provide you with not only longer lifespan, you also get lower temperatures and 15% better efficiency for 30% better overclocking capabilities and less noise.

4_MG_9520

Strix R9 390X comes in a new package, in sync with Strix GTX 980 Ti and Strix R9 Fury.  Now in black, red and silver with sleeker lines and monster heatpipes resembling mufflers on cruiser motorcycles.   A pulsating Strix owl logo is the finishing touch for people who want to mod without modding.

[gallery include="43210,43211,43212" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery"]

DirectCU III with triple Wing-Blade 0dB fans and 10mm heatpipes is a major upgrade, in addition to increased air pressure from the patented fan design, the third fan provides even more cooling than before.  While there is an extra fan, 0dB fan technology makes sure the fans turn on only when you need them for total silence.  You can see another design improvement as the Super Alloy Power II MOSFETs are now also cooled by the main air-cooler, which can be actively cooled by fans as opposed to a separate smaller heatsink.   These 10mm heatpipes are the thickest available today, they transfer heat more efficiently to disperse heat evenly - right to the end of the card!  DirectCU III makes the card 22% cooler and three times quieter than reference!

[gallery include="43215,43216" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The brushed-metal backplate fortifies the PCB while helping to disperse heat and making the card sexy.

[gallery include="43213,43220" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

When you run your fingers over the back of the PCB you will certainly feel like something is missing, no, components are not missing but the pins.  And if you look closely, you will also notice the flux is gone.  Without pins and flux, the card is much easier to handle, soldered joints last longer and dust buildup is greatly reduced.  All this is achieved by AUTO-EXTREME technology, it's a new manufacturing process that is 100% automated!  Each card manufactured is consistently of the highest quality, better for overclocking stability.  Harsh chemicals are no longer necessary and power consumption is halved, leading to a more environmentally-friendly process.

4_MG_9521

Unboxing: Strix R9 Fury

2_MG_9505

The new Strix R9 Fury graphics card is here to kick ass for those who want to go beyond 1080p, but still want change in their pockets.  There are new innovations and significant upgrades all over, including the Fiji GPU, a GPU fortifier, HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) technology, Super Alloy Power II components built using the new ASUS AUTO-EXTREME technology process, DirectCU III air-cooler incorporating triple patented Wing-Blade 0dB fans,  new Strix colors and styling, pulsating Strix logo, and GPU Tweak II software.  There is a lot to be excited about!

[gallery include="43261,43262" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

Upon opening the box and taking a whiff of that new card smell, you may be confused for a split second and wonder why there is a red and black card sitting in there, and why there are three fans now.  It's no mistake, this is the new look of Strix.  Included in the box are the installation DVD, a 2 x 6-pin to 8-pin power adapter, a setup guide (not that you need it, but just in case), a Strix sticker to put over anything else you have which isn't Strix, and the Strix R9 Fury graphics card snug in the protective foam, waiting to be ravaged, and then used to unleash fury in games and benchmarks.

2_MG_9505

The new DirectCU III air-cooler got a complete makeover and now features triple patented Wing-Blade fans for increased air pressure and 30% cooler performance, while being up to three times quieter.

[gallery include="43264,43268" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

Built on AMD’s GCN 1.2 (Graphics Core Next) architecture, the new Fiji series of GPUs based on a 28nm fabrication node have 3,584 shader processors, 224 texture units, 64 ROPs and the core clock factory-overclocked to run at up to 1000MHz (1020MHz in OC mode). Instead of using GDDR video memory, R9 Fury is the first to use 4GB of on-chip HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) operating at 500MHz on a whopping 4,096-bit memory bus ( you can see the four of them right next to the GPU). Having the HBM graphics memory so close to the GPU, the shorter bus means lower latency and up to 60% improved efficiency.   Although HBM operates at lower clock frequencies compared to GDDR5, note that the memory bus is 4,096 bit wide! (384-bit on the GTX 980Ti)  This is a different approach and it makes things very interesting, as this is designed to perform at very high resolutions and benchmarks show that this really shines in WQHD or 4K resolutions, you can expect around 10-15% more performance.  Compared to a reference GTX 980 this is 10% faster for 3DMark: FireStrike running in 4K!

Running a pair in CrossFire will surely get your blood-pumping, while looking great in your system (bridge not needed).

Strix R9 Fury employs DIGI+ VRM with a 12-phase power design to power the new GPU, using new Super Alloy Power II components consisting of Super Alloy Power II Capacitors for two and a half times the lifespan, Super Alloy Power II MOSFETs for less heat and more power efficiency, and Super Alloy Power II Chokes to reduce buzzing noise.  The result is a card that is three times quieter, 30% more stable, 15% more power efficient and possesses more overclocking headroom.

4_MG_9743

While the third fan provides even more cooling than before, 0dB technology is back so that you can do casual gaming or work with silent operation from the Strix R9 Fury.

[gallery include="43267,43277" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

These 10mm heatpipes are the thickest available today, these transfer heat more efficiently to disperse heat evenly - right to the end of the heatsink!   A new pulsing Strix logo can be seen through transparent side-panels.

[gallery include="43265,43269" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The surface area is 120% larger for heat dissipation.  You can see another design improvement as the Super Alloy Power II MOSFETs are now also cooled by the main air-cooler, which can be actively cooled by fans as opposed to using a separate smaller heatsink.

[gallery include="43270,43271" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The dual-slot card comes with a DVI-D port, an HDMI port and three Displayport 1.2 ports.  It measures 30cm (long) X 13.7cm (tall) X 4cm (thick).

3_MG_9467

The gorgeous brushed-metal backplate is back but this time it's got a friend, a dedicated GPU Fortifier is now able to help fortify the GPU area since the air-cooler puts considerable pressure on that area to ensure good contact and therefore better heat dissipation.  This configuration also improves air flow to the PCB.

[gallery include="43272,43273" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

The manufacturing process has taken a quantum leap with 100% automated ASUS AUTO-EXTREME technology.  If you look closely, you will notice the flux and sharp pins have miraculously vanished, this makes the cards with chunky coolers much easier to handle and the solder joints last long while reducing dust buildup.  Super Alloy Power II components were specifically designed to accommodate the new manufacturing process using ASUS AUTO-EXTREME technology.  When the process is 100% automated, perfect cards are produced every time, making each card consistently better and more overclockable.  50% less power consumption and eliminating the use of harsh chemicals during production is paving the way for truly environmentally-friendly manufacturing.

The power efficiency of this card has been dramatically improved since the previous generations.  The card requires an 8-pin and a 6-pin connector for power.  LED indicators help you to distinguish whether or not the connectors are plugged in properly, red for "Fail, try again" (obviously) and white for "Good work buddy, all systems are go!"

[gallery include="43274,43275" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]

Also featured is GPU-Tweak II which now has a new gamer-friendly interface, and of course seasoned overclockers still have access to advanced controls. An exciting new feature is the Gaming Booster feature; with one click you can maximize you gaming frame rates and benchmark scores by freeing up all available resources possible, this is achieved by automatically tweaking visual effects, system services and system memory degragmentation in Windows. The 1-year Free XSplit Premium License worth US$99 is still available.

Strix GTX 950 Graphics Card

STRIX-GTX950-DC2OC-2GD5-GAMING

If there was a "great for all" award, the Strix GTX 950 would definitely be deserving of that title.  It's a great card for any type of visual experience like movies, pictures, casual browsing, and most importantly for gaming as well.

The Strix GTX 950 features DirectCU II cooling technology with patented wing-blade fan design for ultra quiet operation. The fans on the video card remain off most the time until the temperature reaches a certain temperature where the fans need to be turned on to cool down the card, otherwise the card is absolutely silent. In general, tests show that the Strix GTX 950 will run 20% cooler and 3 times quieter when compared against reference.  The card also comes factory overclocked to an impressive core clock of 1329 MHz in gaming mode and can be increased to 1355MHz in OC mode, which showed a 11.5% gaming performance increase in The Witcher 3.

Want to further adjust the settings on the card?  The GPU Tweak II overclocking utility will allow you to tweak and use all of the exceptional overclocking headroom on the Strix GTX 950.  To make things even more interesting,  a free 14-day premium license for the XSplit Gamecaster is thrown in for those who would like to try out live game broadcasting.  To add even more value, in cooperation with Wargaming.net a 15-day World of Warships premium account and a exclusive invite code for a Diana Cruiser ship are offered.
